Installing a second Windows on a different partition or drive from a running first Windows using the WinNTSetup program. Installing windows on a computer with two or more hard drives. Bios is set to legacy mode. hard disk partition style mbr Install from

It happens that if you need to install Windows 10, a flash drive of the right size is not found at hand, and the drive has become obsolete and has not been used for a long time, which is why installing “dozens” from a disk is unrealistic. In this case, the method of installing the operating system from the hard drive will come to the rescue. Yes, yes, one of the hard drive partitions will serve as a boot device with Windows 10 distributions.

What you need

To successfully install Windows 10 from another HDD or partition, you need the following tools:

  • a program for managing the Windows bootloader (we will use EasyBCD with a graphical interface);
  • utility for unpacking the image;
  • a free partition on the hard drive, at least 4-5 GB in size (for writing installation files);
  • An ISO image of a valid edition or build of Windows 10.

Preparing for installation

In principle, installing the "dozens" from the hard drive is carried out in the same way as installing the previous operating systems from Microsoft. Let's see how this is done using the EasyBCD utility and Daemon Tools as an example.

We will use Deamon Tools only to copy the contents of the image to disk, which any archiver or file manager can do perfectly, so if you do not use this program, there is no point in installing it. Its functionality in our case will completely replace 7Z or Total Commander.

Many users recommend creating a new partition (or biting off about 8-10 GB of free space from the existing one) to write installation files to it, in order to protect yourself from losing important information stored on the boot partition. Let's do this, assuming that you do not have a small free partition created for installing "dozens" from your hard drive.

  • We go to "Management" using the context menu of the "My Computer" folder.
  • Go to the "Disk Management" section.
  • We select the partition from which we need to cut off some unallocated space to create a new one, call its context menu and click "Compress Volume".

  • Enter the size by which we will compress the space, and click "Compress".

This volume will be used to form a new partition, to which we will later copy the installation distribution of Windows 10. Therefore, the size should be at least 15% larger than the volume of the image.

  • We create a "Simple volume" in place of the unallocated area by calling its context menu.

  • Specify the volume label, its file system (preferably NTFS), the standard cluster size and click "Finish".
  • Now let's copy the contents of the ISO image to the newly created partition. This can be done by unpacking the ISO using an archiver or, for example, through Daemon Tools.
  • We launch DT and add the ISO with the Windows 10 distribution kit to its window by dragging its icon or using the "Add" button.

  • Select the added document and click Mount.

  • We copy all the contents of the disk mounted in the virtual drive to a new partition of the newly created hard disk.

It remains to create a new boot entry to start the computer using the unpacked image as bootable media.

  • Launch EasyBCD and click on the "Add Entry" button located on the left side of the interface.

  • In the "Removable / external drive" section, go to the "WinPE" tab and set a name similar to the name of the created partition.
  • We click on the icon with three dots located to the right of the "Path" form and specify the "boot.wim" file located in the "sources" directory.

  • Click "Add".

This action will add a new item to the list of bootable operating systems, the name of which is specified in the "Name" form.

To be sure, click "Current Settings" and check if a new boot entry has been added to the Windows bootloader.

Installation "tens"

  • We restart the computer.
  • We select the second option to start the PC from the hard drive, and press "Enter".

A familiar window will appear, from which the installation of Windows 10 will begin.

And we will not repeat what has been said hundreds of times. This has achieved today's goal.

There are moments when we have long used an optical disk with an operating system as a stand for hot tea. Winchester died a heroic death. They have not yet earned money to buy a flash drive or an external hard drive. And in general, our wife left us and the End of the World came. The situations are not pleasant and probably familiar to everyone. If you can somehow come to terms with the departure of your wife 🙂, then, alas, it is impossible with the need to reinstall the operating system right now and immediately.

How can we do it? Let's consider how to install a clean operating system from the main hard drive HDD, without using the gadgets described above.

We take a handful of flour. Mix with eggs and milk. Then a tablespoon of sugar and a pinch of salt ... Sorry friends 🙂, one eye squints at the kitchen and that's why such hallucinations.

Of course, we download the program from the official website of the developers (you can use WinRaR). And a free utility. Where to find ISO - Windows image I hope you don't have to teach.

First we need to create a partition on the disk where we will copy the Windows 7, 8, 8.1 installation files. Alas, with Piggy (WindowsXP), this method does not work.

So let's get started. To do this, by label My computer press right click → Manage → Disk Management.

We see all the information about the hard drive connected to the computer. It is desirable that the disk has already been divided into two parts. Let's start dividing Disk (D:). Hover over it with the mouse cursor and right-click. Choose → Shrink Volume.

There is a request for a place to compress, to what size you can compress.

At the moment, the size of the compressible space (Mb:) is important for us. It needs to be set not much more than yours ISO - image. After the desired size has been set, press the button Compress. A short process and unallocated space appears, and we will convert it into a simple volume. Move the mouse over the unallocated space. Next, right-click and select from the drop-down menu Create a simple volume.

The Create Simple Volume Wizard will start. In all windows, click Further and in the last window click Ready. Our new volume has been successfully created.

Wiping the sweat off your face, open the program DAEMON Tools Lite. Click on the button Add image.

We remember where we have “hidden” on our computer ISO - operating system image. Successfully adding the image to the program. In the catalog of images, select it with the cursor and click on the button mount.

Close the program DAEMON Tools Lite. The installation image of the operating system was successfully mounted into a virtual drive (look in the explorer). Copy all the contents to our new disk. In our case, this New volume (E:).

We launch EasyBCD to add a boot entry and start the system installation.

    1. Click the button Add a note
    2. Select the tab below WinPE
    3. In field Name: we write the same thing as on the new, just created section, in our case: New volume
    4. In field Path select file boot.wim from a folder sources our created disk

  • We press the button Add

If it is not clear what he wrote, carefully watch the video (there all the actions are described clearly)

Clicking on the button Current Settings you can check if a new entry has appeared. EasyBCD you can close and restart your computer. The OS selection menu will appear, in which we select our installation disk New volume. And the standard installation of the system will begin. system and all of the above, see the video. Yeaaaaa! This is the "zapara" many will think. And they will breathe a sigh of relief when their wife returns to them 🙂 . Now there is something to do, and not to read these abstruse tips for reinstalling the operating system.
This method does not work on computers with UEFI BIOS. For cooler computers, you can apply.

Installing each new edition of Windows is easier than the previous one and requires less and less effort from the user. With the release of Windows 10, this task has not been further simplified: now, to install an operating system on a computer, you do not need any special knowledge and ingenious applications. You don’t even need a Windows distribution kit - the installer “learned” to download it itself. She herself creates installation media - a DVD-ROM or USB flash drive. The user can only respond to requests and follow instructions that are understandable even to those who do it for the first time.

Today we will tell you how to clean install Windows 10 on any laptop and desktop PC. A clean install is the installation of an operating system on media that does not have an operating system (for example, on a new computer or a formatted hard drive). Or where it is, but is subject to a complete overwrite without saving the installed software, accounts and settings. By the way, don't worry about the license: if you install a system instead of a legally activated one, you can save it. And we will not hide from you what needs to be done for this.

What you need

  • Bootable media for recording a Windows 10 distribution. It can be a USB flash drive of 3 GB or more, a DVD, a portable or internal hard drive. Since the vast majority of users prefer to install Windows from a flash drive, consider this method as the main one.
  • or set of files.
  • Utility for transferring system files to installation media. If you are going to install Windows 10 on a PC with UEFI (advanced "BIOS"), you can do without it - just copy the distribution files and folders to a USB flash drive. By the way, in Windows 8 and 10, the ISO image can be opened in Explorer as a regular folder, but in earlier systems, this will require a special application, for example, any archiver program.
  • The computer on which you will prepare the bootable flash drive.

Cooking a flash drive

If you do not have a pre-prepared "dozens" distribution kit, it is easier and more convenient to entrust downloading it to the Microsoft Media Creation Tools utility and burn it to a USB flash drive or DVD with its help.

The utility does not require installation on a PC, just run it with administrator rights.

After launching Media Creation Tools:

  • In the "License Terms" window, click "Accept".

  • To the question "What do you want to do?" we answer: "Create media for another computer."

  • In the "Options selection" section, we determine the system language, edition ("home for one PC" or "Windows 10") and architecture (bit depth) - 64 or 32. If the selection options are inactive, the "Use recommended settings" checkbox should be unchecked.

  • Next, select the drive: USB - to create a bootable flash drive, or an ISO file - to download the image, which you will later burn to DVD.

  • After selecting the USB device, click "Next" and wait 30-50 minutes while the program downloads the distribution and creates the installation media. At this time, the computer is available for use.

  • You will be informed that it is time to proceed with the installation by the message: “USB flash memory device is ready”.

If you downloaded the distribution beforehand or don't have stable Internet access, use other tools to create Windows 10 installation media. For example:

  • Rufus. Works without installation. To write the operating system to a USB flash drive, you just need to specify the location of the distribution, as well as determine the partition scheme and type of system interface: MBR for computers with BIOS (old), GPT for computers with UEFI (new, released after 2013) or MBR for computers with UEFI ( if the PC with UEFI has disks marked according to the MBR standard).

  • . This utility is as simple as Rufus. In the section " Add to USB disk"It is enough to mark the item" Windows Vista / 7/8/10, etc.", specify the path to the Windows 10 image and click the "Go" button.

  • Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool . This proprietary Microsoft utility is able to transfer all versions of Windows to USB flash drives and DVDs, starting with the "seven", in just 4 steps.

In addition to these, there are many other free utilities for creating installation media. You can use any - the result will be the same.

Starting the installation

Installation launch options

Starting the installation of Windows 10 is possible in two ways:

  • From under a running system. It can be used if you plan to reinstall it or install the "ten" from scratch to another partition of the disk.
  • When booting from the installation media (via BIOS). A universal option that is suitable for installing the system on a new computer, and for reinstalling an old copy of Windows.

If you choose the first option, open the boot disk or USB flash drive in Explorer and run the Setup.exe file.

If you select the second - boot your computer from the installation media.

How to boot a PC or laptop from a USB flash drive

It turned out that installing Windows 7 from a USB HDD is even easier than from a USB FLASH and much faster than from a DVD. The whole installation took me about 10 minutes (here, of course, the time depends on the performance of your computer). This installation method is suitable for both desktop PCs and laptops with netbooks.

Preparing the boot HDD

Everything is simple here. We will need to create a primary partition (approximately 4Gb) on our external USB drive and make it active. The remaining space can be taken by another section and used for its intended purpose (for example, to organize a file dump).

I will describe in detail the process of creating a partition without third-party software, using exclusively Windows tools. ALL DATA ON THE EXTERNAL HDD WILL BE DELETED!

1. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management (Disk Management)

2. Choose your USB HDD

(right click) - Delete volume;

(right click) - Create a simple volume;

In the window that appears, select the volume size of 4200 megabytes (the size of the distribution kit), and click next. If asked, choose any free drive letter. Then we need to format our new partition FAT 32, click next and you're done.

Now we make the created section active (click with the right mouse button) - make the section active. The second section (if you created it) does not need to be active.

3. Copy Windows 7 to USB HDD

If you have an ISO image like mine, then just unzip it to the created active hard disk partition (I used 7zip for this)

If you have an installation DVD, copy all of its contents to the active partition of your USB HDD.

Now you can safely install Windows. Select your USB HDD in the BIOS as the Primary Boot Device, or see which button you are prompted to press when starting the computer to select the boot source. Almost all modern motherboards provide such a choice.

Greetings, friends.

Probably, every user of a computer or laptop has met with a situation where he understands that it is time to reinstall the operating system. This is due to the appearance of difficulties in work, frequent mistakes and other unpleasant moments. But what if you do not have a USB drive, a plastic disk to burn the image, or the drive refuses to work? Don't worry. Today I will tell you how to install Windows from a hard drive. Many do not even suspect that such tools even exist.

It must be said right away that this option is only suitable for operating systems that are in working order, since many movements will need to be done using the shell. That is, if you suddenly have a blue screen, this method will not help.

In addition, it is worth noting that this guide should only be used for future installations of Windows 7 and later. Moreover, it does not matter on which device the operation is performed. Therefore, Windows XP cannot be placed on a computer or laptop in this way. Because there are other mechanisms involved.

For the procedure itself, we need several tools:

Imaging program - usually this DAEMON Tools. Personally, I generally use the built-in features of Win.

    Utility EasyBSD.

The image of the operating system itself.

Step-by-step instruction()

Important! It is desirable that up to this point your hard drive has already been divided into at least two partitions - for the system and files.

So, to install Windows 8 from the HDD, you need to follow a series of steps. First, create a separate partition for the installation files:

Now, to install Windows 10 or an earlier version, you need to properly prepare the files themselves:

Now it is necessary to do so, the computer understood where to boot from. This is exactly what an app is for. EasyBCD. The order of actions is as follows:

Suddenly, in some situation, something is not clear to you, you can just watch the video:

If you select "", you will see whether the entry has appeared or not. In your case, it should already be in place.

After the work done, close the application and restart the computer. As a result, a menu should appear in which users can select the desired system. Then specify the installation disk "". As a result, the standard operating system installation procedure should start.

Bootice()

The last chain of actions can be performed through Bootice. The program allows you not to create an additional disk, but installs everything from the existing one.

We do the following:

It is worth noting that it is not necessary to indicate exactly where the file responsible for the correct loading of the system is located, since the application will find it itself.

Installation()

This method does not require setting boot options through BIOS, as is the case with using a plastic disk or USB drive. This approach is useful if suddenly the buttons on the keyboard do not work for you, allowing you to get to the right place.

In general, regardless of the version of the future OS, the process is almost the same.

It is important to remember that before starting the process, it is best to have one hard drive connected. This will simplify the partition selection process. In addition, the equipment will consume less resources, which in general will have a positive effect on performance. Therefore, you should not install the OS in this way on another hard drive. The same can be said about placement on an SSD. Of course, if each action is performed correctly, there should be no problems. But even with the slightest mistake, it is possible to lose all data on any of the partitions.

It is also worth noting that a similar procedure is possible from an external hard drive. True, for this it will still be necessary to start Win to set all the parameters. True, again, such procedures are not recommended, since by mistake you can simply delete the data.

In the case of using a plug-in device, you can set the boot setting from it in the BIOS, and simply place a new shell on a laptop or computer. True, for this it is necessary to correctly write the OS to the external component. More details can be.

In any case, regardless of the method chosen, everyone will be able to place a new one if Windows is already installed on the computer.

Well, I hope the article will help you deal with problems on your device.

In general, I would like to recommend that you find a compact portable USB device in advance (today they cost minimal money) and burn the correct system. Personally, I have three of these - for each latest version of the OS from Microsoft. Thus, I can insert a USB flash drive into the port at any second, and within two hours completely restore the computer's performance, while having a brand new shell.

This article describes how to install or reinstall Windows 7.

Before starting the installation, you need to complete a few preparatory steps. At the beginning of the article, we have placed detailed content so that you can quickly view the entire sequence of actions and go to the necessary part of the instruction.

If you are interested in a specific question (eg installation errors, how to enter and configure the BIOS, etc.), the links in the content will take you directly to it.

If you are a beginner, then just follow the guide from start to finish: each item is described in as much detail as possible and includes links to auxiliary instructions.

What should be ready before starting the installation

Review the list below to verify that your computer and system are ready to install or reinstall Windows 7, and follow the steps to complete the preparation.

What are the installation types, how to save personal files and programs

There are two types of installation:
  • A complete reinstallation of the operating system (OS), when the hard disk partition (or the entire disk) is completely erased, including all your programs, documents and files.
  • An OS update that updates only system files.
OS update has a number of disadvantages. Therefore, it is recommended to carry out a complete reinstallation of the system, and for this you will need to save all personal files and program settings.

If you haven't done so already, read the article on preparing for installation, from which you will learn:

  • how to save all important personal data;
  • what programs will be needed immediately after installation and where to download them;
  • is it possible to copy the installed drivers, where to find the drivers after installation;
  • analysis of some special cases;
Save all data and proceed to the next step.

How to legally download the original image of Windows 7 x64 or x32 for free.

Download original image you can legally with the help of the program "Windows ISO Downloader": the download of the Windows image file will be done with Microsoft official site.

Program file Windows ISO Downloader with version 5.21 (dated September 20, 2017) is attached to the article (to the right of this text).
How to download the image correctly is shown in the figure below:

Select the Windows 7 partition, then the desired edition of the Windows 7 image, and then the Confirm button.

Attention!
We strongly do not recommend use assemblies of Windows 7 - use only original system images.

Microsoft has several aircraft hangars of a variety of equipment designed to test the operation of the operating system on various combinations of devices. Therefore, the official OS image works correctly for the vast majority of users.

Build authors don't have that kind of testing capability, so a certain percentage of users will experience issues while running the build that can only be resolved with a full reinstall of Windows.

Which version of the image to choose: 32 bit or 64 bit

Everything is very simple: a 64-bit OS is needed in two cases: so that the computer can “see” 4GB or more of RAM and so that you can work with “heavy” programs or games. Attention!
Some new programs and games may not run on 32-bit Windows.
Conclusions:

  • If the amount of RAM is 4GB or more, feel free to choose x64 (64 bits).
  • If the computer is old and complex programs (eg audio and video editors, design systems, multimedia packages) are not used, choose x32 (32 bits).
More information about the difference between 32 bit and 64 bit operating system is presented in this article.

The easiest way to see how much RAM you have is to right-click on the icon "My computer" → select item "Properties" in the context menu.

In the window that opens, the amount of RAM will be indicated, as well as the bit depth of the system currently installed.

Which version of Windows 7 should you choose: Home, Professional or Ultimate?

There are various versions (editions) of Windows 7, some of which differ greatly in functionality. You can read more about Windows versions.

Most often, when installing, choose between the versions of " professional " And " Ultimate ».
The best choice in terms of image version would be « Windows 7 professional » .
But don't worry if you have a different edition of Windows - the installation process will be the same.
In the editorial " professional " Unlike "Ultimate" there are no services that most users will never use.
You probably haven't even heard their names: DirectAccess, Unix Application Launcher, BranchCache, BitLocker, and so on. Accordingly, hard disk space version « professional » take less.

How to burn an image to a DVD disc or USB flash drive?

If you have already recorded the image and the installation from it went well, then you can immediately proceed to the next chapter. If you don't know what programs can be used to burn an image to a disk or flash drive, then the following auxiliary articles will help you: Please note that installing from a flash drive is more reliable and also faster. If you have a flash drive with a capacity of 4 GB or more, then it is better to install from it.

The process of reinstalling Windows.

So, the preparation for installation is completed: all personal data is saved, the media with the operating system distribution kit is created, and the partition on which the image will be installed is prepared.

Boot device priority setting in BIOS

  1. Restart your computer and enter BIOS.
    • on personal computers, most often buttons are used to enter the BIOS « DELETE» (« Del»), « F2", "F1", "Esc»
    • on laptops - keys « F8", "F9", "F12", "Esc»
  2. After going into the BIOS, you need to find the menu section responsible for installing devices to boot the OS.
The section can be in different places (depending on the type of motherboard and BIOS version), so you need to find the menu « FIRST BOOT DEVICE », « BOOT » or « BOOT DEVICE ».
  1. You need to go to this menu section and set the drive to the first place DVD or HDD(your Flash drive) depending on which media the image is on.
  2. After that, you need to exit the BIOS, saving the changes.
Most often, to save changes before exiting, you need to press the key « F 10" , and then confirm saving by pressing « Y » or by selecting « Yes » in the dialog box.
If you are having difficulty entering BIOS, saving changes, or finding boot device priority settings, then check out the article on setting options in the BIOS.

In the article you will find instructions with examples:

  • how to enter BIOS or UEFI with examples of different BIOS screens.
  • how to find option BOOT DEVICA PRIORITY.
  • table with a list of keys for entering the BIOS on laptops from different manufacturers.

Autorun installation of Windows from a DVD disc or flash drive

If you did everything correctly, then after restarting your computer you will see the following:

  • if you are using DVD media, you will see the inscription "Press any key for load from CD..." (press any key to boot from CD). You must immediately press any key, because after a short amount of time (about 10 seconds) the boot will start from the next boot device installed in the BIOS.
  • if you used a flash drive, the installation will start immediately
Remember!
When installing an operating system, you must be careful and careful about functions that you do not fully understand.
The site administration is not responsible for the result of your actions.

Installation start

Attention!
Your computer may have gray and blue USB connectors. If you are installing the OS from a USB flash drive, then be sure to plug the USB flash drive into the connector USB2.0 (grey), otherwise the installer may not see it.
You can judge that the operating system installer has started to work by the line that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Selecting the type of installation

  • A system update will allow you to reinstall Windows on top of your existing operating system.
  • A full installation will allow you to select an existing partition to install or repartition your hard drive. The system will be installed clean, so this option is more acceptable (we wrote more about installation types at the beginning of the article).

Figure 5. Selecting the type of installation of the operating system.
Choose "Full installation (advanced options)", as shown in figure 5.

Figure 6. Selecting a hard drive for further installation Windows 7.

Hard disk partitions for system installation

After proceeding to the full installation, we will be presented with a list of hard drives on which we can create or select partitions for installation. At this step, there may be several options for the development of events.

  • You have only one hard drive in your system.
  • You have a separate hard drive (perhaps an SSD) where the operating system will be installed, and separate drives for data storage.
  • The installer does not see the hard drive or other errors occur (below are links to articles that discuss these problems step by step)
Attention!
If you have more than one hard drive, then move all your important data to the drive where your personal files will be stored and turn it off so that you don't accidentally mix up the drives when creating partitions or formatting.
If you have only one hard drive (or SSD), then it is advisable to split it into parts (if the disk capacity allows it).

The disk must be divided into parts so that at least 50 GB is allocated for the system, possibly even more, because. for normal operation of Windows 7, it is desirable that the system partition has at least 15-20% free space.
The disk is partitioned to make it easier to reinstall the operating system in the future.

For example, you have only 1 hard drive in your computer with a capacity of 500GB.

You split it into 2 parts: 120GB (disk " C:") and 380GB (Disk " D)

Now on disk « D you store music, movies, photos, software installers, folders with drivers, games, etc., and on the disk « C you install programs for work.

Files from the "Desktop" and "My Documents" folders are also stored on the disk « C:». When in the future you want to reinstall Windows, you just need to transfer (copy) all important files from the desktop and other folders on the disk « C to disk « D, then perform a full reinstall with a disk format « C.
If the disk is not partitioned, then you will have nowhere to transfer data from the disk « C:», and you won't be able to format it.

Partitioning a Disk

At this step, you can create partitions on your hard drive if:

  • the hard disk is not partitioned (new or all partitions were previously deleted);
  • There are no important files on the hard disk, and all information can be deleted.
The new hard drive is immediately displayed as a single partition and is labeled as "unpartitioned" (see Figure 6).
If you are going to repartition the disk (and all important files have already been transferred from it), then you need to:
  1. Delete all partitions of your disk sequentially using the button "delete" . Attention! All files on these partitions will be deleted!
  2. Select the unallocated partition that appears with the mouse, click the button "Create" (See Figure 6).
  3. Specify the size first for the system partition (which will be the drive « C ), then create a partition for the drive « D (and other disks if necessary).
If the disk was not allocated, then the OS installer will additionally create a 100MB partition to store special system files.

Selecting a partition for installation

If partitions on the disk have been created before:

  1. Select the system partition (on which the OS was previously installed).
  2. Click on the button "Format".
  3. After formatting, select the cleared partition and click on the button "Further".
If the installer does not see the hard drive, requires a device driver, or has other problems, then look for and fix your error with the help of these two articles:
  • Analysis of various types of errors when installing Windows 7 (including by codes).
  • What to do if the installer does not see the device (drive, hard disk, keyboard or mouse, etc.).
In Figure 6, you can see a 35 GB unpartitioned disk.

Figure 7. Creating a partition on a hard drive
In our case, no section has been created yet, so you need to click on the button "Create" (Figure 7), then specify the volume of the created partition (Figure 8) and click on the button "Apply" .

Figure 9. Confirmation window for creating a partition
After that, the operating system installer will inform you that an additional partition will be created to store system files:

Figure 10 Installing Windows 7
Click on the button "Further", after which the installation will begin (copying all system files and the OS setup process).

The process of copying files will take 15-30 minutes and will not require any action from you.

Figure 11. Installation completion window
When the files are copied and unpacked, the computer will restart.

At this point, you must remove the DVD or Flash drive from your computer, as the installation will continue from the hard drive where the required files were copied to.

After the reboot, you will see a window with the installation completed.

Figure 12. Entering the username and network name of the computer for the installed system.
The completion process will take a few minutes, after which the initial setup of the operating system will start.

Completing Windows Setup and Initial Setup

When the setup process comes to an end, you will be prompted to enter a username to create your account, as well as a computer name for subsequent network identification (under this name your computer will be visible on Windows local networks).

Or a fucking Intel chipset. In general, they called me to order, set the task - to kill a ten, to screw in a seven. I take the right flash drive with YUMI, on which there is an image of Acronis Disk Durector, all kinds of Windows and Linux, necessary for any kind of work, and I'm starting.

I demolished Windows 10, killed the ugly GPT, repartitioned the disk, inserted a USB flash drive with the Win 7 installer, but the stone flower does not come out, the Windows 7 installer sends me for Cdrom drivers, in other words, Windows 7 asks for CD-ROM drivers.

A mess, I thought, because there was no CD-ROM even in the project. A little googling gave the answer, Windows 7 doesn't support USB 3.0 and the box. Gates with it, I turn on the USB compatibility mode in the BIOS. Linux sees both a flash drive and hdd, acronis too, but the Windows 7 installer is a horseradish.

In general, I thought, thought, and still found a way to install Win7 from a hard drive, although I spent a lot of time in vain adding USB drivers, various rowing with sticking flash drives and other garbage, but there is a much easier way ...

What do you need

1. Two flash drives. We put our favorite “formatka” on one, it is also a disk manager and Hiren’s Boot CD. In general, we don’t need the whole HBCD here, we can do without.
2. I almost forgot, we need some more lightweight Linux. In this particular case, I used .
3. Flash drive 2, on which there is either an image of the Win7 installation disk, or an installer already prepared for booting from a USB flash drive. In my case, there was option 2, pre-prepared with Rufus
4. Sufficient disk space. I had as much as a terabyte screw at my disposal, although the described move by the cat can be repeated even on a 50-gigabyte IDE-HDD, if it turns out to be in such a hardware configuration.

What do we do

1. We make disk partitions as we please. For example, I made a logical drive D: for user files, 700 GB at the end of the disk, and left the 300 GB area at the beginning unallocated. The Win 7 installer will then mark it up, put the OS files on the future C: drive and create its own bootloader on a separate "System Reserved" partition, 100 MB in size

2. Using your favorite disk manager, we make a logical partition for the Windows 7 installer, the size varies from 5 to 8 GB, but it's better to do 8. The format (file system) of the partition is NTFS or FAT32, the latter is preferable.

3. We boot into Linux, and if you followed the advice to use Puppy, then everything will be “kakvende” - a desktop, a row of disks below, a Windows flash drive with a flash drive icon. Sorry, I can't shoot a video, the car has already been taken away

4. Copy the files from the flash drive with the Windows installer to the created partition. Copying files is easy: open the flash drive by clicking on it 1 time, open the desired disk (similarly), switch to the window with the open flash drive, press CTRL + A, selecting everything in the window, and drag it with the mouse to the next window, where the desired section is opened

5. It remains to reboot from a bootable USB flash drive, and select the menu item Boot From Hard Drive (Windows Vista / 7/2008 or Xp), if you boot via PXE or from the HBCD installed on YUMI, or select Boot Windows (XP / 2003/2008) /Vista/7) From Local HDD and only then Boot From Hard Drive (Windows Vista/7/2008 or Xp)

If everything is done correctly, then Grub4DOS will find bootmgr, which will launch the Windows 7 installer.

It remains for the installer to specify the unallocated disk area for installation.

Then the partition with the installer can be demolished and combined with the C: or D: drive.

Somehow, I apologize that without screenshots and videos, the patient has already been discharged.

Let's consider in detail the installation (reinstallation) of the operating system (hereinafter OS) Windows 7 from the distribution kit, which is located on the computer's hard drive. This method has some advantages - the installation is faster, since the speed of reading from the hard disk is higher and, moreover, errors in reading the CD in the optical drive are eliminated. The distribution kit of Windows 7 must be unpacked with any archiver convenient for you onto a partition () of the disk that cannot be deleted during the installation process - usually a partition on D.

Let's look at three installation options:

Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages, which are discussed below. Common disadvantages are - the inability to use on computers with UEFI (a replacement for an outdated BIOS) that support GPT (new disk partitioning methods that replace the MBR) and the inability to restart the installation in case of errors you made, or to detect a hardware malfunction during the installation process (in this case , you will have to resort to installing from a CD or flash drive).
Further descriptions refer to installing one OS on a computer with one hard drive, since when installing a second OS, there are features that are not included in the scope of this page of the site.
And so in order:

Installing Windows 7 from a hard drive from under the old Windows 7 OS.

  • Inability to change partitions during installation (format partition C if you can’t, the installation is not quite clean);
  • The inability to start the installation with some damage to the current Windows 7 OS and the inability to start the installation of some non-original versions of Windows (on assemblies, the message “Error code: 0x8030002F” will pop up);

To have enough in the section WITH space for the new OS, it must have more than 16 GB of free space (for a 32-bit system) or 20 GB (for a 64-bit system).
And so, - we unpack with any archiver convenient for you (for example, WinRAR) into a partition (we used to say disk) D"*.iso" distribution image.

Picture 1.

The distribution package includes 5 folders and 3 files circled in the figure. Here, the “Archive” folder conditionally denotes the user's folders and files in the section - they will not interfere with us. The main thing is that there is enough space on the partition (the volume of the unpacked distribution kit is approximately 2.32 GB).
To start the installation, run the file setup(appendix 110 KB).
The installation of Windows 7 begins, the sequence of which is almost the same as installing from a CD.
But here I would like to dwell on the features of choosing a partition for installing Windows.

Figure 2.

Here you see three main hard disk partitions created with a previously installed Windows 7 OS.

  • Section 1 - 100.0 MB. Hidden - it is not visible in Windows Explorer. The main purpose of this partition is to store and protect the hardware files and the boot folder that tells the computer where to start Windows. Attributes of this section: System, Active, Main section. This section may or may not exist! Windows 7, when marking up free disk space, automatically determines the need to create this partition, depending on the presence of an active partition in the system and the number of already existing partitions (based on the limitation, there cannot be more than four main partitions). The size of this section can be 100÷350 MB depending on the Edition of Windows 7 .
  • Partition 2 - 99.9 GB. In Windows Explorer you see it as a disk C. It contains the operating system files and part of the user files.
  • Partition 3 - 1763.0 GB. In Windows Explorer you see it as a disk D. It contains user files. In this case, we placed the Windows 7 installation distribution on it.

In the installation option under consideration, we cannot do anything with these sections (including formatting Section 2), - select Section 2 and press the button Further.

Figure 3

A "Windows Setup" warning appears, stating that "The selected partition may contain files from a previous Windows installation. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named “Windows.old”. You will be able to access information in the “Windows.old” folder, but you will not be able to use a previous version of Windows.” We agree - press the button OK.
The installation of Windows 7 OS continues, as a result of which new files and folders of the new Windows 7 OS will appear in Section 2, files and folders will be overwritten in Section 1 (if it is present).

Figure 4

At the end of the installation of Windows 7, opening the local disk in Windows Explorer C you will see the files and folders located on it (in this case, the “show hidden files and folders” options are enabled), including the aforementioned folder Windows.old with the files of the previous OS. You can enter it and copy the files you need to save elsewhere. In the future, as unnecessary, you can folder Windows.old delete by running Disk Cleanup.

Starting the Windows 7 installation from the hard drive from the command line at the beginning of the old Windows 7 boot.

The disadvantages of this installation option include:

  • The inability to start the installation with some damage to the current Windows 7 OS and the inability to start the installation of some non-original versions of Windows (assemblies);
  • The OS must be of the same bit depth, either 32-bit or 64-bit.

This installation option allows you to perform a "clean" installation with deleting partitions containing the old OS and creating them again.
And so, - we proceed from the fact that you unpacked the distribution kit to the root of the partition following the partition with the OS (possible and subsequent, - it only affects the choice of a letter in the command). To start the installation, you need to run the distribution file setup. exe, located at the root of the partition (do not confuse with setup.exe located in the sources folder).
While starting (rebooting) the computer, hold down the F8 key.

Figure 5

When the "Advanced boot options" menu appears, select "Troubleshoot your computer" (offered by default) and press the key Enter.

Figure 6

In "System Recovery Options" select the input method from the keyboard and press the button Further.

Figure 7

We select a user, if you have a password set, enter it as well. If it is not set, then leave the field empty and click the button OK.

Figure 8

Select the recovery tool, - click on the option: Command line .

Figure 9

Here you need to run two commands:

  • Go to the section where the distribution is located;
  • Run file in this section setup. exe.

We add in the first command: "X:\>windows\system32> E and press the key Enter. Here you need to take into account that in MS DOS the partition letters do not match those that you see in Windows Explorer (the hidden system partition is not visible in Windows Explorer - in MS DOS it is visible under the letter C).
In the second command, add: "E:> setup. exe"and press the key Enter.
Do not be afraid to make a mistake - in case of an error, the command will simply fail with an error message.

Figure 11.

We press the button Install.

Installing Windows 7 from a hard drive from any operating system capable of installing a new MBR (Master Boot Record) on the hard drive using the BOOTICE utility.

Any Windows operating system must be running on the computer, which allows you to place an unpacked distribution kit in the "root" of any partition (logical disk) that cannot be deleted and allows you to run the BOOTICE utility. The BOOTICE utility is required to install a new MBR (Master Boot Record) on your hard drive.
The principle is simple - during the reboot, the new master boot record you installed does not launch the OS installed on the hard disk, but the boot manager available in the unpacked distribution bootmgr , which continues the installation of Windows 7, proceeding further, as when installing from a CD. During the installation process, the MBR you installed is automatically replaced with the standard Windows 7 MBR.

And so we consider everything in detail.
In order to avoid errors and prevent limitation of installation possibilities, we disable all unnecessary disks - we leave only one hard disk.
We proceed from the fact that the "* .iso" distribution image is located on the hard disk of the partition D. We unpack it with any archiver convenient for you (for example, WinRAR) to the “root” of the partition (we used to say disk). After unpacking, we will need only three folders boot, efi, sources and download manager bootmgr, - the rest is not involved in our "clean" installation ("*.iso" distribution image is also not involved). Available in section D your files will not interfere (the main thing is that there is enough space), the New MBR will start the boot manager on reboot bootmgr(we will rename it below). In the same place or in an accessible place, you must place the BOOTICE utility file (about 150 KB in size) - you can download it, for example, from this link.
After that you have files on disk D will look like this (unused folders and distribution files are not shown):

Figure 13.

To start Windows 7, an MBR of type is used. WindowsNT 6 xMBR.
To start the Windows 7 installation process, we need the boot manager to start when the computer is restarted. bootmgr. This can be done by changing the MBR hard disk master boot record to type GRUB4DOS. We will do this with the help of the BOOTICE utility.
But there is one peculiarity here - GRUB4DOS requires the name of the boot manager file to be no longer than 5 letters! Therefore the name of the download manager file is bootmgr will have to be shortened.

Figure 14.

The name itself does not play a role here - the main thing is that it should be no longer than 5 letters and match the one specified in the "GRUB4DOS Configuration". So let's rename it to GRLDR, - into the one that the BOOTICE utility will offer us later by default (Figure 17). The next time you boot your computer, a new boot record will be found and on any partition (and even logical disk) of the hard disk, it will launch the boot manager under the name GRLDR.
And so the necessary files are there - run the BOOTICE utility.

Figure 15.

We have one hard disk - it is visible in the "Destination disk" field. To replace the MBR, press the button CompletedMBR. We do not touch the PBR installation.

Figure 16.

On the "Master Boot Rekorder" tab, enable the option and press the button Set/Change.

Figure 17.

In the “GRUB4DOS Configuration” window that opens, make sure that the GRLDR file name corresponds to the boot manager we renamed above and press the button Save to disk.
Then pressing the button Exit(Figure 15) close the BOOTICE utility.

Everything - the preparatory stage is completed. You are now ready to install Windows 7!
We restart the computer. During boot, the old OS will no longer start with us, since its main boot record is no longer on the hard disk. Instead, we have already recorded GRUB4DOS 0.4.5c/0.4.6a (grldr.mbr) which will launch the download manager file with the new name GRLDR.
The installation of a new OS begins ... Its procedure is similar to installing from a CD, see.
With this installation, you can delete partitions you don't need (of course, except for the partition containing the distribution kit), and create new ones in their place.

After reading all of the above, you realized that by running the preparatory operations described in this method on the hard disk, you can turn off the computer, transfer the hard disk to another computer. When you turn on another computer with this hard drive, the installation of the operating system will immediately begin.

That is, if there is no CD drive on the computer and nowhere to insert a USB flash drive, then please - you have a ready-made solution!
